I throw the note at him, detailing where to collect my money. All I want is to get the fuck out of here already. I don’t spare a second glance at the trader and focus my gaze on my prize.

I tower over her, hearing the small gasp from her lips. I’m mesmerized with her, never having seen anything so beautiful. Under all the filth hides a gift from the gods, all made for me.

The bruises are more visible this close. I have to assume the slave trader had something to do with it. I’ll make him pay for it later. Right now, all that matters is the woman in front of me.

She doesn’t blink but keeps her stare directly into mine. I can get swallowed up into her eyes just as if they were the unforgiving ocean. Unlike the darkness that lurks beneath those waters, hers carry the endless horizon that symbolizes a hopeful journey.

“Uh, Your Excellency, are you changing your mind about –”

“Shut your filthy mouth,” I snarl at the seller. 

My prized possession flinches at my loud voice, making me think twice about reprimanding the whole damn room. 

“I’m leaving,” I say.

I pick her up, careful not to hurt her, and storm out of the place. As much as she trembles under my hold, she clutches her small hands on my forearms. An inexplicable feeling brews within me, but I pay it no mind.

“Do you know what you’re doing?” Dhymhi asks, materializing out of nowhere.

“I thought I told you to wait outside, fool.”

“Yes, and you already killed a demon in less than an hour in there,” he reprimands. Then he looks down at my arms. “Again, are you sure you know what you’re –”

“She’s mine. She always has been.”
